REAL Healthcare Reform: Don’t Give Up Hope

October 22, 2009

It’s been a big week of news on the health care front. Some has been welcome and encouraging (no more anti-trust protection for insurers, maybe) and some quite discouraging (Reid’s deal with the AMA falling through.) Still, I’m not giving up, and I’m holding out hope that, somehow, the Democrats we’ve elected are going to get their act together and not waste this historic opportunity. I’m not convinced, but I still have hope.

One reason I see possibility is that there are still a few un-jaded good guys out there. Like Senator (man, do I love to say that!) Al Franken. I have long been a fan of his, since at least the 80’s (a.k.a “The Al Franken Decade”.) I admire him not just for his wit, but for his passion and smarts. Here’s a little clip to demonstrate:

I’m so glad he’s on our side. If we only had 59 more…

There has been a lot of effort this week to reach out via petitions and calls to Congress to demand a true public option. Polls released this week have shown strong majority support, as well. Hope is not dead, momentum may yet be with us. If you’re involved in the effort, keep it up; if you’re not yet involved, it’s not too late to start. I’ll play you out with this MoveOn ad I rediscovered this week. Enjoy the R.E.M. and remember: we can’t afford to wait any longer.

Doesn’t the junior senator know he’s supposed to keep his mouth shut the first year? 😉

    You go, Al!

Al Franken keep his mouth shut? You, sir, are ridiculous. At least he’s amusing enough to justify opening it.

Are you actually FROM Minnesota? ’cause if you’re not, you should see Al Franken from OUR perspective. He is one of the two reasons we had to suffer though SEVERAL recounts the last few months to find out who our Senator would be. And we got a crappy one out of the deal. Granted, the other choice was oh-so-slightly worse. And the other people we have representing us make me wish I lived in ANY other state.

…at least our Governor wants to castrate rapists… I can back THAT.

Perhaps you should give South Carolina a try.

I wouldn’t give South Carolina a try if you paid me. I love it here. Sure, the weather is inane, our Reps. are idiots, and our sports teams are experts at blowing it in the important games, but I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else on Earth.

And luckily, thanks to NASA’s furthering their work on space exploration, I don’t HAVE to live on Earth…
