Joey and the King

July 1, 2010

We Americans fought a Revolution to escape British rule over 200 years ago. But some people just yearn for the good ol’ days. They feel an inordinate amount of deference is called for when dealing with today’s royalty: huge multi-national corporations. And if you’re an old oil & gas man from Texas, the hoity-toitiest of all is Big Oil.

While it is true that most of the Republican party is “in the tank” for Big Oil, the most flagrantly obsequious of them all has to be Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX6). His delicate sensibilities were so troubled by the treatment BP has received at the hands of the Obama administration, that he felt the need to apologize! Look at him; I’m pretty sure he was bowing.  Alert the Right Wing Press! Joe Barton was apologizing for America, and we just don’t allow that.

What’s that you say? The Right Wing Press backed him up on this? But, but… So you’re telling me it’s okay for a US Congressman to literally apologize to the head of a foreign corporation that has irredeemably fouled our  national coastline, and with it an entire regional economy; but if you’re the President and you’re a Democrat it’s a whole different story?  Hmmm…

IS that right? Did Barton receive more from the oil companies than the Comrade In Chief did?? I don’t think so. In fact I know he didn’t.

Your blindness and misdirection isn’t fooling anyone…except yourself of course.

That’s ridiculous. You’re comparing apples to oranges when comparing a House member to the President in terms of total money. The money Obama has received from the oil industry is a pittance of his total. The industry doesn’t even crack the top 20. Joe Barton, in contrast, finds the oil industry to be his #1 contributor.
You’ll have to come up with another talking point, sorry.
