Glenn Beck: Good For Your Love Life?

October 27, 2010

If you nearly choked on the headline above, you just haven’t seen Fox News’ latest promo for the Glenn Beck Show. Watch it. Have a laugh. My commentary will follow.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Where to begin?

Apparently Fox believes, despite all evidence to the contrary, that they have young viewers who go out and party! With pizza! And girls! Clearly, this spot is not aimed at their average viewer, who is 65 years old. After all, they’re advocating the use of cutting-edge technology – – the DVR!

The impetus to create an ad like this escapes me. Does Fox really believe there are young people out there, with DVRs, desperate to watch the Glenn Beck Show, but just as desperate to “get their groove on” (with girls!)? Do they further believe that these strapping young specimens of manhood can’t figure out on their own that they could DVR the show? Is Fox News saying their viewers are idiots? Yes. I think they are.

And that “hot chick”? She’s gonna have to be pretty wasted to be enticed back to this loser’s pad for pizza and the Glenn Beck Show. (But perhaps she’ll be impressed you remembered the deodorant and Altoids™.) Just sayin’!

Then again, perhaps my inability to grasp this is indicative of the wide divide separating Tea Party/Glenn Beck acolytes from the rest of us. And that’s just sad.
