Is Mitt Romney Smarter Than A First Grader?

March 20, 2012

Smarter than Mitt? Or just his supporters?I’m going to go ahead and give Mitt the benefit of the doubt: I assume that he is, in fact, smarter than a first grader. Well, maybe I should make that at least as smart as a first grader…er, let’s make that most first graders.

Problem is,  Mitt doesn’t seem to give his supporters that same benefit of the doubt. At least not if this hollow nugget of truthiness from his victory speech in Illinois tonight is any indication.

“The simple truth is that this president doesn’t understand the genius of America’s economy or the secret of the American economic success story,” Romney said. “The American economy is fueled by freedom.” (Talking Points Memo) (Emphasis mine.)

I was in the car with my 6 year old daughter this evening as NPR reported on the win and played this very clip. My daughter immediately started laughing and said:

“Really? Does that even mean anything?” (My genius off-spring)

Outta the mouths of babes, eh?

First of all, kudos to your daughter. Second, why is it we always hear about how preposterous Obama’s lofty rhetoric is (“the waters will stop rising”) but no one calls out Mitt for this nonsense?

It could be that when liberals use lofty rhetoric it inspires. When conservatives do it, they sound stupid. 🙂
