“The Dog Loved It!” …Ann Romney Becomes As Unlikable As Mitt

April 16, 2012

Dogs Against RomneyTalking Points Memo reports from the transcript of Diane Sawyer’s new interview with Mitt and Ann Romney:

DIANE SAWYER: As we move away from this primary campaign into the next phase– again, on Yahoo, we got two questions most often, first about Seamus– which as you know is out there forever– would you do it again?

MITT ROMNEY: Certainly not with the attention it’s received.

DIANE SAWYER: You said it was the most wounding thing in the campaign–

ANN ROMNEY: It’s crazy.

ANN ROMNEY: The dog loved it. The dog was, like–

DIANE SAWYER: But the dog got sick, right?

ANN ROMNEY: Once, he– we traveled all the time and he– he ate the turkey on the counter. I mean, he had the runs. But– he would see that crate and, you know, he would, like, go crazy because he was going with us on vacation. It was to me a kinder thing to bring him along than to leave him in the kennel for t– in– in– in a kennel for two weeks, so.

Ha ha ha! Too bad the Romney campaign was banking on Ann to make Mittens more likable.

A few points here:

  1. Notice how Mitt’s response is that he wouldn’t do it again because of all the attention it’s receivednot because he has since learned that it is wrong? (Seems to be the only thing Mitt won’t flip-flop on!)
  2. Notice that they simply can’t seem to fathom that people would care about this issue? (It’s crazy! C’mon – it’s just a dog, people.)
  3. Ann says this wasn’t a one-time thing. They did this all the time.
  4. Did you know that tying your dog in a crate to the roof of your car is kinder than kenneling him with professional canine care-givers? I did not know that.

Also, in case you missed it, Mitt is attending a fundraiser today hosted by Fred Malek. Who is Fred Malek, you ask? Well, for the purposes of this story, all you need to know is that “Fred Malek is part of a group of men who were arrested after killing and barbecuing a dog in a city park in Peoria, IL in 1959.”

Mitt Romney: winning hearts and minds.
