Mobilize for Healthcare and Progress

January 22, 2010

The Right-Wing/Tea-Party/Teabagger Movement (Whatever you prefer to call them.) Is active on Twitter and has mobilized an aggressive action to try to put the fear of God (or, at least, the fear of Martha Coakley) into Democratic Representatives and Senators. Their immediate goal is to prevent the House from passing the Senate’s Health Care Reform bill, which is currently our last, best chance to get something through this session.

More importantly, though, between the hysterics of the Mainstream media, Fox “News” and the exceedingly vocal right, there is a very real danger that the lesson the Democratic leadership takes away from the Massachusetts loss is that we’ve over-reached and need to retrench even more toward the center. Of course, poll after poll has proven this to not be the case. The frustration out there is not that the Democrats are doing too much, but rather that they have not achieved enough. Whether fair or unfair, this is the case.

Right now, it is vitally important that the Democrats in Congress hear from the people that actually put them there. (The only people, it must be said, that would conceivably vote for them again. Certainly the Teabaggers bombarding them with harassing canned text right now would never support any of them.) They need to know the will of their true constituency. If the Progressive agenda is to move forward again, we must re-light the fire in the belly we had in 2008. Take a good, long look at Senator-elect Scott Brown: that’s where complacency has gotten us.

The following is the list of Senators and Representatives currently under fire by “Operation Waterloo” (You read that right.) Please reach out to them. Tweets are great, but phone calls, email, letters and office visits  are much more effective. I had wanted to provide all contact information, but haven’t had the time to get it all together. But, hey, we’re Progressives, we’re smart, we can google, right?

Just called Hank Johnson’s office whose receptionist seemed to appreciate the support.

    Great list. Thanks for posting.

Teabaggers are also targetting the other FL Senate seat formerly held by Mel Martinez. Somewhat moderate Republican Charlie Crist running for that seat and the Teabaggers have put up Marco Rubio to run against Crist.
Rubio is now tied in the polls.
The Teabaggers also ousted the head of the FL GOP because he supported Crist.

I’d love to see Crist pull a Lincoln Chafee and become an independent. (Remember, Crist supported Obama’s stimulus plan and introduced him at a speech)

Is that the new word for the socialistic, anti-American values movement? Progressives? Us ‘teabaggers’ don’t mind forward moving processes that work. We abhor reckless, poorly thought out, feel good plans that do more harm than good. We don’t like when politicians promise the moon and deliver shadows at ten times the cost originally made. We see the future as something that has to be carefully planned, less we find ourselves thralls to those who call themselves ‘progressives’. Elitist ego maniacs who live under the false delusion that they know better. Well, you don’t. Only I know whats best for me. And I’ll thank you to mind your own damn business and stop enforcing your pathetic need to control me by government mandate.

Please slow down on the health care reform. Everyone supports health care reform, just not force fed per se. There is a lot of merit to the bill but there are just too many issues to pass as is. In general the overall system needs to be looked at from primary care to hospital to medevacs etc. The issue is complex and you are unable to solve a very complex system with one bill. Take it a step at a time and we’ll get there!!!

we can either run around like Chicken Little, crying that the sky is falling. or we can mobilize and actually DO SOMETHING. the time is NOW!!! act!!!!

thank you for compiling this list. now if people will just USE IT!!

Thanks for the call to action. I will be watching the news channels to see the results of this mobilization! Let me know when you get a dozen people to show up to do anything for anybody.
TEA people have a compelling mission statement. The current elected officials are not servants of the people, but view themselves as somehow insulated from the problems of common folk. Sorry, but we are common people.
However, I am sure all of your comrades view themselves as chosen to save us from ourselves.
